Almost everyone in Dartford and Crayford have their water supply back after a botched repair work to a burst pipe caused havoc.

On Tuesday, a water main burst in Crayford Road, but repairs by Thames Water yesterday caused a second burst on a joining pipe.

Hundreds of people in parts of Bexley, Crayford, Dartford, Stone and Wilmington were left with either very low water pressure or no supply at all because of the problem.

Cars were crushed between the floor and roof of a car park in Crayford when blocks at the base of the car park swelled as they were lifted up by flood water.

The town's High Street and Tower Retail Park were submerged and Crayford Road has been closed at the junction of Station Road and Roman Way.

The flooding has now subsided but ongoing work to repair the pipes mean there will still be some delays for motorists. However, access to the retail park will be open today.

Thames Water senior operations manager Danny Leamon said: “We’re really sorry for all the disruption our work is causing and we’re doing everything possible to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We appreciate this has been a very difficult time for local people and businesses and we will have advisers in Crayford tomorrow ready to talk to customers about any issues they might have.”
