The Dartford toll booths really are going to disappear.

The Highways Agency will begin 12 weeks of consultations on Monday on how they will collect the crossing charges.

They will scrap the barriers at the QE II Bridge and the neighbouring tunnel by a straightforward billing system during 2014.

Drivers, however, face hefty fines if they do not pay by the following day.
