Tony Burman completes Dartford's close season transfer activity with capture of Teddy Sheringham's son Charlie

Dartford boss Tony Burman says striker Charlie Sheringham will be the last arrival before the new season.

The 22-year-old son of former Manchester United and England star Teddy arrives on a free transfer from cash-strapped Bishop’s Stortford – who had paid Welling £6,500 for his services just a year ago.

The former Crystal Palace youngster scored 26 goals for the Wings in 2008/09 before a 17-goal haul for Stortford last season preceded a loan switch to Histon in a cost-cutting measure in February.

Sheringham’s arrival came less than 24 hours after the versatile Joe Bruce became the third Braintree defender to join the Darts this summer.

Burman (pictured) said: "I’m pleased with the summer so far. I let some good players go so we had to bring in good replacements.

"With Jamie Coyle and John Beales going, I needed another defender and with Joe coming in now I have the five that I worked with last season.

"Within 24 hours of that, I had the opportunity to sign Charlie and he was someone who was already on our radar.

"We have invited a couple of trialists along to pre-season from July 1, one from Blue Square North and if things work out, then we might sign someone then."
