Lee Burns ended Dartford’s promotion season with the player-of-the-year accolade and even boss Tony Burman has been surprised with the player’s scoring form.
Burns finished the season as the club’s leading scorer, having hit 22 league goals but was originally signed as a midfielder.
Burman (pictured) said: "He’s done brilliant. He’s come in and did something that we weren’t expecting, which was to score 22 goals after playing up front for most of the season.
"He’s warmed to the supporters and they’ve loved every minute of it.
"He started up front and he’s never looked back."
Burns’ award came during the club’s end-of-season celebrations at Princes Park on Friday night.
Also walking away with silverware were Adam Gross (players’ player), Elliot Bradbrook (manager’s player), James White (young player) and Danny Harris (Leach/Towersey memorial shield – Pure DFC player of the year and Grassbank away player). The vice-president’s player-of-the-year award also went to Burns.
Burman chose midfielder Bradbrook for his award after the midfielder came back from two months out with ankle ligament damage.
"He’s been an excellent player for us and we missed him when he wasn’t in the side," said Burman.
