He may be just 13 but Toby Sears, from Dartford, has mastered baking and business.
The schoolboy has already started his own company – Tobias’ Cakery Bakery – which not only has a pool of clients, but the start-up has scored a food hygiene rating of five, the highest possible score.
Toby bakes at home twice a week to supply his customers with sweets and treats. His cakes are sold at The Meeting Place in Sutton-at-Hone library and the Churchyard Tea Rooms in Dartford.
His great-grandfather owned a bakery and his nan loves to bake as well, making the culinary skill something of an heirloom.
Toby completed a short baking course at Westminster Catering College but the teenager hopes to become a patisserie chef one day.
Dartford council leader Jeremy Kite said: “Congratulations to Toby on his top rating.
“The council is working hard to help raise and maintain the standards of hygiene in the borough’s restaurants and other food outlets.”
