Traffic being held on M20 near Swanley and M25 between junctions 1 and 3 as fire engines attend ‘serious’ three-car collision

Commuters are facing long delays after a “serious” accident involving three vehicles at a major motorway junction.

Three fire engines, police and ambulance crews descended on junction 3 of the M20 at Swanley just before 6.30am.

Traffic heading to London is queueing back across the QE2 bridge while congestion is running for two miles on the A20 Swanley bypass and through Swanley town centre.

The fire brigade is advising drivers to avoid the area surrounding the M20 Junction 3 Swanley, while crews respond to the crash.

A spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service has three fire engines in attendance, and is assisting Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service.”

All traffic is being held on the main carriageway in both directions between junction one for the M25 and junction 3 for the M26 while the coast-bound entry slip-road remains blocked coming from the clockwise M25.

A police spokesman said: “Our patrols are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the slip road from Junction three on the M25 towards the coastbound M20.
