Valley View: Charlton Athletic striker Rhoys Wiggins writes for the KM Group

It's fair to say that in the past few weeks the main focus of attention has been on the other player Charlton signed from AFC Bournemouth over the summer.

Scoring twice at Rochdale and then his partner giving birth to triplets two days later was always going to put Danny Hollands’ name in the headlines – and that’s just the way I like it. I’m perfectly happy to simply do my job quietly and effectively and do my bit to help the team be successful.

I think this is the best I’ve seen Danny playing, though. I knew he was a good player but he’s playing unbelievably at the moment. He hadn’t scored for us before the Rochdale game but he’s had a hand a few goals this season and he does a good job defensively. I just wanted him to get that third goal – that would have made a hell of a story!

That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the odd spell in the spotlight, however, as fans may have seen from my goal celebration at Spotland.

A few people have asked me why I was pointing to my foot, and it’s all because of some stick I was taking about the colour of my boots before kick-off – from supporters and everyone else in the changing room.

They were purple with luminous yellow lines and red down the front – a really nice, bright mixture.

I’d actually had them a while but it was pouring down so it was the first time I’d needed to wear studs, so I had to be brave and pull them out.

I bought them because I like the style and it’s the only colour available in leather – all of the others are plastic. I took a bit of stick but I said during the warm-up that if I scored my first goal for the club, I would point to them.

Beating Chesterfield in front of a big Valley crowd was important on Saturday and we followed it up with a good away point at Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday night.

Hopefully, all the fans who came to the big Football for a Fiver game over the weekend enjoyed themselves and will come back soon. I thought we were particularly good in the first half.

That was in contrast to midweek at stadiummk, when the Dons certainly had the better of the opening stages.

But we regrouped at half-time and came away with a deserved point.

It will be another tough game on Saturday, against Sheffield United, but we are already raring to go.
