Violin stolen from train between Barnehurst and Dartford

A valuable 100-year-old violin was stolen from a train as it travelled towards Dartford.

The theft happened at about 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1.

A man boarded the train at Barnehurst, London, and removed a violin, which was in the overhead rack.

The man then left the train at Dartford.

The violin was made in about 1920 and two bows were also in the case.

The violin has been reunited with its owner, who forgot to take it out of the overhead rack, but British Transport Police would like to speak to the man in the CCTV image in connection with the theft.

Investigating officer DC Jennifer Brown said: “I am keen to speak to the man in the CCTV image as I believe he may have information that could help with the investigation.

"Thankfully the instrument has been reunited with its owner, but I am still keen to speak to the man in the CCTV image."
