More on KentOnline
From the first day Matt Soper opened the doors at The Creation Lab in 2010 with one employee, it has been extremely important to him to make all the staff feel they are vital components.
This has been especially relevant in the past 12 months with the firm doubling in size.
Based at The Nucleus Innovation Centre, Dartford, the digital media agency delivers a broad spectrum of services.
These include bespoke website design and development, video production, including interactive videos, virtual tours, mobile apps and virtual flipbooks to name only a few.
Clients are based worldwide and recently the firm produced a website for GS Mountford Zambia.
The Creation Lab also holds free monthly seminars at the Nucleus Innovation Centre. These events are an opportunity for local small business owners to get advice on how to better their business online without spending any money and have proven extremely popular.
The 11 staff members come from a variety of backgrounds and work exceptionally well together.
They all have the same vision for the company and motivate each other. They comprise of graduates and three interns who have brought fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Mr Soper feels it is important to keep everyone fit. He said: “We are a very healthy bunch. Oh yes. None of this burger and coke rubbish.
“We have fresh spring water on demand right here in the office and a box of the finest fruit delivered once a week. It has bananas, apples, oranges, plums and other goodies that we snack on between our wholegrain breakfasts and midday quinoa.
“However, there is also Beer Fridge Friday when at 3pm the healthy eating goes out the window and we all partake in a beer, or two.”
Charity work plays a large part and last year The Creation Lab Charity of the Year was introduced.
This is a scheme inviting all the staff to nominate a local charity which they believe would benefit from a brand new website package and there is no charge.
In 2014, the chosen charity was The Harmony Therapy Trust which offers free supportive therapy to patients living in Kent with chronic, serious life-threatening illnesses.
This year, it is hoped The Creation Lab Charity of the Year is going to be Kent Young Carers. Support would involve the creation of a new website and the offer of ongoing backup.
The company was one of many who entered the Dartford and Gravesham Business Awards, which are now in their 10th year.
They are supported by the Messenger, and each entrant gets a free profile in our papers and on our website.
This year’s award sponsors were Dartford council, Gravesham council, Barnes Roffe, Kent Business School (University of Kent), the KM Group (Dartford Messenger and Gravesend Messenger), Lloyds Bank, Thomson Snell and Passmore, Edinburgh House, University of Greenwich and Mid Kent College.
