Two village sports clubs could be forced to cancel matches after their playing fields were torn up by a rogue motorist.
The Pavilion, in Punch Croft, New Ash Green, is thought to have been driven onto at around 11pm last night (November 13).
It is believed the suspect entered from Redhill Road, driving over the mound surrounding the fields before continuing to cruise around leaving a trail of tyre tracks in their wake.
The destruction was discovered by a dog walker who was taking their pets over the fields and described their actions as similar to that of a “character in Grand Theft Auto”.
The incident has caused damage to both the football and rugby pitches.
Chairman of New Ash Green RFC, Daniel Archer said the rugby club could be forced to cancel multiple matches this weekend because of the damage caused.
He will be visiting the sports venue tonight (November 14) to inspect the fields. He added: “This will affect around 200 people. Player safety is really important to us and we do not want to put them at any extra risk.
“I am most worried about the ladies' game on Sunday. If we have to cancel they will take a five-point reduction.
“We are really growing as a team and cannot take that. Postponing the games is not an option, we would have to cancel if the pitch is unsafe.”
Football club New Ash Green JFC has also been affected as their senior and junior pitches have both been damaged.
Chairman David Hall said the club may have to call off its games as the weekend but it is monitoring the situation and awaiting instructions from the groundsman.
The Pavillion bar and sports venue is owned by the residents of the village, between Gravesend and Sevenoaks, and hosts football and rugby pitches and tennis courts.
New Ash Green Village Association, who is understood to manage the site, declined to comment.
