War memorial on Stone Recreation Ground, Stone, vandalised with white graffiti

A war memorial commemorating soldiers who lost their lives in the service of others has been vandalised.

The tribute located on Stone Recreation Ground, Dartford, had the word ‘Doze’ sprayed over it with white graffiti and was discovered yesterday.

It is believed that the mindless act took place over the weekend and comes only six weeks before the parish remembrance service.

Stone Parish Council chairman John Burrell called the vandalism a "disgraceful act"

The memorial garden is due to have four new memorial stones installed which will feature 118 names of Stone’s First World War soldiers.

Council chairman John Burrell said:“This is a disgraceful act by someone with clearly no respect for the soldiers who fought valiantly and lost their lives for our freedom."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and quote reference number 22-11-11.
