Firefighters tacked a kitchen blaze after a pan of cooking oil was left unattended.
Two fire engines were sent to a flat in Priory Road, Dartford, at about 2.20pm.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames on the hob using hose reel jets.
It is believed the fire started accidentally and no injuries were reported.
KFRS’ volunteer response team also attended to offer support and advice to affected residents.
A spokesman from the service said: “It’s important to take care extra care in the kitchen and to keep cooking areas clean and clear of anything which could catch alight.
“Remember not leave cooking unattended, and make sure you switch it off if you have to leave the room.”
