A warning has been issued after part of a family home went up in flames due to a log burner.
Multiple fire crews were called to a blaze in part of a flat roof in Farm Place, Crayford, near Dartford on Monday (January 15).
A small part of an internal extension was also damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
It’s understood the blaze started accidentally and was caused by a log burner.
Firefighters were called shortly after 4pm and extinguished the flames two hours later.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews along to assist colleagues from the London Fire Brigade.
They have since issued a warning to homeowners, especially those with children, in a bid to prevent similar accidents happening in the future.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “The rise in energy costs means there’s a very real risk of heating-related fires.
“We know people will turn to alternative ways to keep their families warm overnight without turning on the heating - we just want to make sure people are staying safe at the same time.
“It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and ensure these items are safety registered and in good working order.
"If you’re using these items around children, always supervise them carefully and place heaters and log burners somewhere where they won’t be accidentally knocked over and away from anything which could catch fire.”
Firefighters recommend you look at their online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.
They say “it only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire.”
