A woman has died after falling from the Dartford bridge this morning.

Officers from Essex Police were called at 9.30am after a woman who was seen standing outside the bridge railings.

The woman, believed to come from Grays in Essex, was then seen to fall from the bridge.

A police helicopter and a lifeboat were called to search the water below.

They later recovered a body of a woman in her 40s, believed to be from Grays in Essex.

One lane was closed while police carried out their investigation. It was reopened shortly after 11am.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
