A person has died after an incident at the Dartford Crossing this morning.

Police were sent to the bridge following concerns for a woman’s welfare shortly before 4am.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Following a search by our HM Coastguard colleagues, a woman was recovered from the water nearby.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, she was pronounced deceased.”

They say the woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

A file is now being prepared for the coroner.
