A holidaymaker who fell ill with suspected food poisoning on a “nightmare” summer break has instructed lawyers to investigate the cause of her illness.
Jane Syers, 48, of Farm Place, Dartford, was struck down with severe gastric symptoms during a week-long stay at a four-star resort in Turkey with her friend Suzanne Chandler.
She booked the all-inclusive break, worth more than £500, at the Perdikia Hill Hotel in Ovacik with World Sky Travel Limited, trading as Anatolian Sky Holidays, but instead of relaxing on a beach she became violently sick two days after arriving.
Miss Syers said she hardly ate or drank after becoming ill and claims she still suffers from the effects of her illness. Her friend was also ill and Miss Syers claims more than a dozen tourists complained of feeling unwell.
She decided to seek legal advice after she complained and was offered 5% off another break.
Miss Syers said: “We were really looking forward to a relaxing holiday, but after just a couple of days it turned into a nightmare.
"We were so disappointed and angry that we could not enjoy our holiday together.”
She claims that food was sometimes undercooked or served lukewarm and the buffet was sometimes uncovered, which meant insects could land on the food.
She said: "I have never done anything like this before but I thought I just can’t afford to spend money on holidays that are a waste of time.”
Ms Syers has employed solicitors Irwin Mitchell to investigate whether she can claim successfully against the company.
Clare Comiskey, a specialist personal injury lawyer, said: “Jane and her friend fell ill days into what was meant to be a relaxing summer break at an all-inclusive hotel.
"We will now be investigating the cause of their illness.
"As we conduct our investigations we would urge anyone who stayed at the Perdikia Hill Hotel and who may be able to provide information about the conditions there to get in contact with us as soon as possible.”
A spokesman for Anatolian Sky Holidays said: "We would like to state that Anatolian Sky regards any incident of this nature extremely seriously and every step was taken including seeking and acting on advice provided by ABTA.
"The health and safety of all of our guests is always of paramount importance to our company.
"We were extremely surprised and distressed to learn of Ms Syers’ illness and we do hope she has now made a full recovery."
