Charlton's hopes of a top-10 finish in the Championship remain in the balance after the Addicks fell to a 1-0 defeat late-on at Birmingham on Saturday.
The only goal at St Andrews arrived eight minutes from time when substitute Lloyd Dyer fired into the corner across Stephen Henderson's goal from just outside the box.
Henderson had been called on early to tip a long-range drive by Robert Tesche onto the woodwork while Diego Fabbrini fired wide from close ranger after good work from young prospect Demarai Gray and sent another good chance off-target.
At the other end Johann Berg Gudmundsson saw a long-range drive held by Darren Randolph who also tipped a shot from Tony Watt over the bar and blocked a low shot from Igor Vetokele who had been put through by Watt.
David Cotterill saw a shot saved by Henderson and struck the outside of the post with another effort, while Randolph kept out another Watt strike.
Charlton's defence looked set to make it one defeat in six on the road and Henderson superbly kept out a Jonathan Grounds header, only for Tesche to send Dyer clean through to win it in the closing stages.
The Addicks remain 10th with a game to play, however they are just a point ahead of Sheffield Wednesday in 14th.
