Bournemouth were in party mode when they arrived at the Valley having secured promotion and they displayed the champagne football to match by putting three goals past Charlton on Saturday.
The Championship's leading scorers came out with their usual shock and awe methods that have won them so many plaudits.
Charlton's season was over long ago and it was a mere formality of finishing the game to move on to the next campaign, and it showed. For most of the game they had their deckchairs out in the sunshine and camped in their own half, sitting and admiring like the 21,280 crowd.
Matt Ritchie added his 14th league goal to put Bournemouth ahead in the 10th minute. Marc Pugh drove at the Charlton defence, passed it to Yann Kermorgant and then laid off to Ritchie who superbly slotted the ball in off the post.
Their lead was doubled just two minutes later when former Charlton youngster Harry Arter robbed Yoni Buyens in possession 20 yards from goal and had an easy job of knocking it past Stephen Henderson.
The result was wrapped up by the superb Ritchie in the 85th minute after battling his way though the box and passed into the bottom corner.
Their win also secured them the Championship thanks to a Watford slip-up against Sheffield Wednesday and the home crowd all applauded Bournemouth for their achievement.
The Cherries showed their class and put on an opening first half display that was breathtaking at times.
Callum Wilson could easily have had a hat-trick but was stifled by defelctions and last-ditch diving tackles by the desperate Charlton defence who were trying to stem the tide.
In the 19th minute he was weaving past Addicks players and, had it not been for Roger Johnson hurling himself to the floor, he would have scored.
Ritchie was the star of the Bournemouth show and caused problems all afternoon, first from the right and latterly from the left wing. He nearly added his second in the 58th minute, turning Fox inside out then cutting inside and his shot deflected past Henderson but bounced out off the woodwork.
The home side had no chances to speak of and only managed to get one shot on Artur Boruc’s goal in the 33rd minute when Frederic Bulot rolled one into his hands. They showed a bit more fight and determination after the half-time break but were still second best.
Church had Charlton’s first meaningful effort on goal in the 59th minute but could only win a corner. Gudmundsson did well on the right to turn his marker and find Church in the box. The Welsh striker turned and struck but could not test Boruc.
More worryingly for the Addicks were the injuries sustained. Vetokele came off late in the first half. Buolt was replaced by Eagles because of injury and they finished the game with 10 men when Watt limped off with 15 minutes to go.
Charlton: Henderson, Gudmundsson, Bulot (Eagles 69mins), Diarra (Gomez 69mins), Vetokele (Church 39mins), Buyens, Solly, Fox, Johnson, Ben Haim, Watt. Subs not used: Ethridge, Bikey-Amougou, Wiggins, Lennon. Attendance: 21,280.
