Charlton made easy work of their Capital One Cup first round fixture with Oxford as debutant Simon Church grabbed himself a brace on Tuesday night.
The former Reading striker, who was signed after a successful trial at The Valley, opened his Addicks account after pouncing on a deflected Joe Piggot effort.
Charlton doubled their lead just after half-time as midfielder Danny Green slotted home a free-kick past keeper Ryan Clarke, before Welsh international Church made it 3-0 just eight minutes later after Cedric Evina’s pass.
There was still time for Charlton to add to Oxford’s misery as academy product Piggot, who was making his senior debut, converted a late penalty when substitute Jordan Cousins had gone over in the box following a challenge by Jake Wright.
Oxford’s best opportunity of the match against a commanding Charlton side fell to Ryan Williams, but his close-range effort was kept out by goalkeeper Ben Hamer.
