Captain Mark Hudson is battling to be fit

Bristol City v Charlton

Charlton skipper Mark Hudson has had an injection in a troublesome hip injury in the hope of being fit to face Bristol City on Tuesday night at Ashton Gate.

The Addicks' inspirational central defender missed Saturday's last-gasp defeat at Burnley where manager Phil Parkinson was hoping to pair him alongside Darren Ward, signed on loan from Wolves.

"Mark has had the injection and we hope it will settle the injury down and he will be fit to face Bristol City," said manager Phil Parkinson.

Should Hudson fail a fitness test, Parkinson is likely to retain midfielder Matt Holland in the role of stop-gap centre-back after his outstanding success in the position against Burnley.

Right-back Graeme Murty is certain starter after extending his loan for a further month from Reading. The former Scotland international has featured in every Charlton league fixture since arriving from Reading.

Both Charlton and Watford have denied a report that Hornets central defender Jay Demerit was on the verge of a £300,000 move to The Valley before Monday's closure of the transfer deadline.
