James Alaka’s season best run in the IAAF World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland wasn’t enough to qualify for the main event.
The Blackheath and Bromley sprinter timed 10.75secs in the 100m heats which were ran in the wet following torrential rain moments before the race.
Alaka was up against eventual winner Yohan Blake of Jamaica, the world’s third fastest man this year and just missed out with a fifth place finish.
Alaka will hope for better fortune on Friday when he takes part in the heats of the 4x100m relay.
He said: "I'm really disappointed but I need to focus again now and put everything into the relay."
