Tipped greyhound Time To Think duly won for column followers at the weekend.
This was an impressive performance in top grade S1 and the chances are the dog will now take her chance in an open race here soon. She should continue to improve, given she is only three.
Column readers would also have had a second winner on last Thursday afternoon’s card when Jar Of Ale scored at odds of 9-4, which seemed reasonable in grade A3.
The question is, can the dog make it three wins in a row?
At this stage he may need a couple of attempts to win against a better level of opposition but he is definitely one for the future here.
It looked likely that I could have given you all three tipped dogs as winners last week, had it not been for the unfortunate Twist The Lot who was knocked over at the first bend in her race after having missed her break away from the traps.
She will have a trial before returning to our race card but I am still optimistic she can gain some early compensation for backers in her next full race.
The main feature this weekend is the Owners Bonus final for our top-grade A1 greyhounds over 380m.
The main market fancies after last weekend’s semi-finals will be Clongeel Bud and Stepit Up Louie, both trained by Julie Luckhurst.
Apart from the obvious chances of these two dogs, the Luckhurst kennel has been in a rich vein of form – last Saturday evening’s card shows eight winners from the 12 races.
Drawn in separate semis last Saturday, both dogs won in style with times of 23.40 and 23.53sec. But looking at the result sheet, I must now side with Clongeel Bud, who was a length-and-a-half slower than Louie at the sectional point, traps to line on the first circuit but came home a length-and-a-half quicker on the clock.
This shows that the Clongeel Bud was three lengths quicker across one complete circuit and it will be difficult for Stepit Up Louie to reverse this form in a cleanly-run race.
Clongeel Bud will need a clear run because as the form book shows on March 7, he finished behind Stepit Up Louie when missing his break when the traps opened and was bumped at the first bend.
This will be a great final, so why not come and see a top-class race?
