Norwich 0 Charlton 1
Charlton ended their record-breaking run without a win with victory at Norwich in their FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday.
A sixth-minute goal from Darren Ambrose was enough to seal victory for the Addicks and a trip to Sheffield United in round four.
The win ended a run of 18 games without a win and it was a first for manager Phil Parkinson at the 11th attempt.
He said: “I said to the lads afterwards just remember how hard we worked physically and mentally.
“Physically we had that extra yard and mentally we had to concentrate on our jobs. I felt we were disciplined and committed.”
Parkinson had to make changes at the back with loanee Jay McEveley back at Derby and fellow full-back Graeme Murty cup-tied. They were also without the injured Jose Semedo and ineligible pair Martyn Waghorn and Matthew Spring.
Despite the absentees, Charlton got off to a great start as Ambrose netted his first goal of the season after latching onto Nicky Bailey’s through ball.
The Addicks defended their lead solidly with Darren Randolph given the responsibility in goal for the first time this season.
Fellow youngsters Josh Wright and Grant Basey were also included.
Randolph had to tip and effort from Carl Cort over the bar but captain Mark Hudson and Jonathan Fortune kept Norwich quiet throughout to guarantee victory.
