Dartford boss Tony Burman weighing up deal for trialist Warren Mfula

Dartford boss Tony Burman admits he is tempted into taking a gamble on striker Warren Mfula.
Burman has played Mfula in the club’s pre-season friendlies against Millwall and Gillingham and is getting closer to making a decision on the trialist’s future.
The 27-year-old was a goalscoring sensation last season, hitting 44 goals for AFC Croydon Athletic in the Southern Counties East, Premier Division.
It’s a jump up to National League South but Burman, who would still like to add to his squad before the season starts, believes the striker has the skills and attitude to do it.
He said: “It’s a big leap but he is not a young lad. He is 27, he is an intelligent guy and in training he has held his own.
“Yes, it could be a gamble and I am probably going to make a decision after Saturday’s game (against Phoenix Sports). He knows that and that is the same as the other guys who have been on trial.
“I realise that he has been playing several leagues below us but who knows? If you get someone with that hunger they are worth a chance. I am seriously thinking of doing that.”
Mfula picked up an ankle injury before the pre-season games began but still managed to get a run-out during the last two matches.
Burman said: “You get enjoyment from someone who is trying his hardest to make the grade in a higher level and you have got to give him respect for that.
“He is not going to come up against players like he has done against Millwall and Gillingham. That’s why I am going to give him a go on Saturday and maybe the Sutton game (on Tuesday).
“I don’t think he is looking to do anything else other than try and impress us here and try and get a place in our squad.
“Even at 27 he is willing to learn. He has an eye for goal, that’s for sure.”
