Dartford boss Tony Burman has praised his players for silencing their critics in recent weeks.

Since ending their 10-match losing streak, the Darts have picked up 11 of a possible 18 points to give themselves a real chance of staying in the Skrill Premier.

They hammered Woking 5-1 on Tuesday night and Burman hailed the character of his squad afterwards.

He said: "I’m pleased for them, because they’ve had a lot of criticism.

"It’s nice to get the three points and to get it by that numbers of goals is a bonus. I’m really pleased. The guys have responded and they’re giving it a good go.

"We’ve brought in some quality players as well, which has helped us, and there’s a little bit of belief in there.

"Woking are a good side but they had a long trip to Gateshead (on Saturday) which makes a big difference for us part-time sides, especially when you’re playing on a heavy pitch like ours.

"Having said that, I can’t fault the players."

The sides exchanged goals inside the first five minutes at Princes Park and the game turned when Woking had Joe Jones sent-off for a late tackle on Jim Stevenson.

"It was good for us," Burman admitted. "I don’t want to see people sent-off but the referee’s seen it as a late challenge.

"There’s enough games where we’ve played against 10 men and not performed well, or we haven’t got things right, but I felt we did get things right this time.

"We’ve got that belief in us at the moment and I’m pleased for everybody at the club.

"The players have done well and the supporters - who, week in, week out, last year, were really upset and couldn’t go out over the weekend for the stick they might be taking – are enjoying it probably as much as we are."

Dartford are at home to Hereford United on Saturday.
