A familiar face will be out to shoot down Dartford on Saturday.

Former striker Charlie Sheringham has been banging in the goals for Hemel Hempstead after joining them on loan from Ebbsfleet.

Darts boss Tony Burman had tried to re-sign Sheringham but will instead be hoping his defenders can keep him quiet.

Burman said: “Charlie is a good player and he did ever so well for us. I was disappointed I couldn’t add him to the squad but that is football, it happens.

“We have to keep an eye on him, that’s for sure. We made an enquiry but weren’t able to persuade Ebbsfleet to let him come to us and he went to Hemel. We’ve moved on.”

Sheringham scored 30 goals for the Darts during the 2010-11 season which led Bournemouth to make a move, paying a reported £25,000 for his services.

He returned for a loan spell in 2013 but joined AFC Wimbledon that summer. Burman showed interest in signing him again when he became a free agent but Ebbsfleet got there
first.

Burman said: “Keeping an eye on Charlie will be vital and they also have Callum Driver, who used to play for us.

“I know we have to be on our guard. Hemel have given all of the top sides a good game and we know it will be difficult to get something there. They are a good, attacking side.”

Darts are waiting on news of the injury to striker Andy Pugh which kept him out last the weekend. He has a gluteal muscle strain.

Burman’s side are comfortably entrenched in the National League South play-off places but he isn’t resting easy just yet. He said: “We still need a few more points to make it certain.”
