Dartford manager Tony Burman on 1-0 away defeat to Ebbsfleet

Dartford manager Tony Burman felt his team deserved a point at Ebbsfleet on New Year’s Day.

The Darts went down 1-0 but edged a narrow first half, only to not create many openings in the second half.

Burman was disappointed that they didn’t have a goal to show for their efforts in the first 45 minutes.

“First half we were okay, it was fairly even,” said Burman.

“We got behind their defenders and got some crosses in and we didn’t have that finishing touch.

“They got behind us a couple of times and the players told me that the cross (for their goal) was deflected but it’s gone in and they took their chance.

“We had a chance soon after that and Danny Harris should have put the ball in. But I felt when we got behind the Ebbsfleet defence our crosses just didn’t come off.

“It’s a little bit disappointing but it happens sometimes. I think the players have been excellent, worked their socks off and we deserved to get something from the game.

“We did enough to get a draw over the 90 minutes. It wasn’t to be but it’s not lack of effort or the way we played, it’s just we weren’t ruthless enough in the box.”

It means both teams take three points from the two festive matches and Burman enjoyed taking on their rivals.

“Credit to both sets of players and both squads,” he added.

“We’ve had two good games. I’m disappointed (to lose) but the way that we’ve conducted ourselves has been excellent.

“The standard has been set over the last two games. We’ve played a good side and competed against them, and taken three points off them.

“If I’m one point behind Ebbsfleet at the end of the season then I think we’ll be in the play-offs and hopefully we can do that.”
