Dartford boss Tony Burman felt his team made hard work of seeing off Weston-super-Mare at Princes Park on Tuesday night.

The Darts trailed 1-0 at the break and needed a stunning winner from Alex Brown seven minutes from time to take the points and move up to third in National League South.

"We made hard work of it to be fair," said Burman. "Weston are on the back of four games undefeated. They are a young side who are taught and coached the right way. They’ve got a lot of players from under-21 level.

"You have to get in amongst them, whether you want to call that old-fashioned or not, that’s what you have to do. We did a lot of things not quite right, especially after we had the goal disallowed our heads seemed to drop. We’ve had a few words at half-time but the players reacted to that and fair play to them.

"We have good habits that have got us into this position in the league weren’t there (in the first half). I felt that we went through the motions a little bit and you can’t do that.

"These games are the hardest games. I don’t think we’ve played great but the spirit has come through again and we’ve won the game.

"Lots of people will look at the result and see that we’ve won. They won’t worry about how we’ve played.

"We’ve gone to third and made our little statement. Long may it continue and we’ll get better."

Dartford felt they should have gone ahead on 10 minutes but Ryan Hayes' goal was ruled out for offside, even though Danny Harris didn't touch the ball.

"Ryan’s shot from outside the box," said Burman. "If it’s gone through Danny’s legs then he’s in the way of the keeper but I don’t think he was – that’s my issue.

"It’s happened and you have to get on with it but we didn’t, we started sulking and that’s why they’ve gone up the other end and put the ball in the back of the net."
