Dartford manager Tony Burman has vowed Mark Onyemah will bounce back following their FA Trophy defeat.
The Darts were knocked out 2-1 by Whitehawk at Princes Park on Saturday with on-loan Luton left-back Onyemah at fault for both goals.
Onyemah gave away a penalty and then failed to clear his lines which led to the winning goal for Whitehawk.
It could have been a different story had Onyemah's 52nd-minute not come back off the crossbar when the game was goalless.
"Mark has been brilliant for us since he has been here on loan," said Burman. "Unfortunately he got punished for a mistake.
"He's a more than strong enough character to put that behind him. He has been outstanding for us since he's been here. He was nearly the hero when he went through and hit the bar, then he was penalised for handball and he should have done better when he got closed down (for the second goal). Two passes before that the ball should have gone long.
"I've not seen the handball but the referee is standing there so he must have thought it was. It just seemed strange the way it happened."
Burman was still pleased with what his team had to offer against a strong Whitehawk side who are still in the FA Cup and seeking promotion from National League South this season.
Chances were few and far between but the Darts boss felt the visitors were not able to dominate the play in the manner that many expected.
"I don't think we deserved to lose the game," added Burman. "Whitehawk are a good passing side and we stopped that happening for the majority of the game.
"We said at half-time that we looked like a team who have had two weeks off. We got into third gear but couldn't get into fourth or fifth.
"They are a free-scoring side and get a lot of players forward. it's disappointing in the way that we've lost as we didn't play badly. The players haven't done much wrong."
