Alan Dowson is still in the market to add to his Dartford squad.

The Darts boss was hoping to land a Football League player on loan but that deal failed to materialise.

He’s still looking for reinforcements but won’t settle for a drop in quality.

“I want my number one targets, if not my number two targets,” said Dowson.

“But I won’t drop down to three or four as they need to be better than what I’ve got.

“Every player I sign now has to be better than what is here, I’ve got to make sure that happens.

“I was expecting a call on Tuesday, we just need a couple of players and hopefully I get them.

“I thought I had a winner but he came on in the Football League and scored so I won’t get him just yet but he might come up in a couple of weeks. We’re looking at someone from a League 1 club now.

“I’ve got the budget to do it because I haven’t spent all my budget.

“I just need one or two but I’ve got to wait for them. The Football League clubs are going to let people out on loan now.

“We’re not far away from being a very good side and a very good squad.”

Dartford travel to Taunton this Saturday in National League South.

The newly-promoted side are yet to score a goal, taking just one point from their first three matches.

“It will be a challenge,” noted Dowson. “I’ve been down there before, they leave the grass long and it’s a tough place to go.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re up for it and get back on song as quickly as we can.

“We need to crack on, the performances have been good. We’ll go down on Friday night against Taunton and get the players prepared as well as we can.

“They’re all challenges in this league. There’s a lot of good teams in it, including us.

“There’s not a lot wrong, we shouldn’t have got beat (by Havant) and we have to make sure we bounce back better.”
