Dartford have cancelled defender Matt Fry's contract by mutual consent.

The 23-year-old joined the club in June, having helped Concord Rangers win promotion from the Ryman League Premier Division last season.

Fry's move to Princes Park was supposed to be a stepping stone back towards the Football League, having suffered several serious injuries in the early part of his career.

Having played for West Ham, Charlton, Gillingham and Bradford, Fry arrived in north Kent with high hopes of resurrecting his professional career.

But things didn't go to plan.

Fry made 15 appearances for the Darts in Skrill Premier, the last being in their 5-1 humiliation at home to Wrexham on November 19.

Manager Tony Burman hauled Fry and fellow defender Mat Mitchel-King off early in the second half and was scathing in his criticism after the game.

Burman said: "It was probably the worst defensive play I've ever seen from us. I feel I've been badly let down.

"I don't normally get let down. It's not often that it happens and it only happens once.

"I'm not going to go into individual names because I don't think it's fair to do that but defensively it was there to be seen.

"It was shocking, simple as that."

Fry was also guilty of a bad error which gifted Salisbury a goal in their 4-2 FA Cup win over Dartford on November 9.
