Departing Dartford duo Tom Bonner and Tom Champion will both be Cambridge United players next season.

The pair last week accepted offers to play full-time football at the Abbey Stadium after helping the Darts to an eighth-placed finish in Blue Square Bet Premier.

Centre-back Bonner and midfielder Champion will play under Cambridge head coach Richard Money after spending three years with Tony Burman at Princes Park.

Bonner, who was approached by five professional clubs, said: “There were only one or two clubs I would have left Dartford for, that I’d have seen as being progressive in my career.

“Cambridge really did treat me well, they sold the club to me more than the other clubs did. That’s why I decided to go there.”

Champion said: “Cambridge are a big club with a good history and I knew I wouldn’t have to relocate. I felt there was more scope at Cambridge to realistically get into the play-offs and achieve something.”

See this week’s Dartford Messenger for full interviews with both players.
