Dartford boss Tony Burman has insisted his squad have punched above their weight by reaching the National League South play-offs this season.

The Darts booked their place with a 3-1 home win over Hampton on Monday, setting up a two-legged semi-final with Chelmsford early next month.

But Burman believes his team deserve more credit as they are not among the division’s biggest payers.

"At the start of the season if you look at the financial table, we weren’t top or third, we were around eighth or 10th," said Burman.

"That’s why I’m delighted with what we’ve done. On and off the field, we should be proud of the team because we’ve had a good group this year.

"We know what we’ve got to expect and what we want to do. We’ll be the underdogs, make no mistake about that, whoever we play. I’m delighted because how we’ve done it has been excellent."

Victory over Hampton was only Dartford’s second win in five games and Burman is hoping his team can now go into the play-offs full of confidence.

"In the next couple of weeks we (want to) get back to how we were playing," said Burman.

"We know we’ve had a dip in form. It’s not as horrendous as some people around this club make out.

"You have to go through these things sometimes but the season is over 42 games and over the 40 that we’ve played, we’re there because we deserve to be there. That’s what our supporters should be proud of – we’re back in the mix.

"We’ve got some targets still to reach with the two games remaining, then we go into cup football. It’s cup mode. They are one-offs, although you do get a second bite of the cherry in the semi-final."
