Scotsman Jack Davidson became the first British driver to win a NASCAR Whelen Euro Series race in the 11th running of American SpeedFest at Brands Hatch.

The former Mini Challenge frontrunner crashed heavily at Paddock Hill Bend last year during his first season in the V8-powered category.

But the Chevrolet Camaro driver enjoyed a strong meeting on home soil this year which culminated in victory in the final race on Sunday.

Davidson, who won the 2017 Fiesta Junior title, competed in all four EuroNASCAR races over the weekend, driving in both divisions of the championship.

He took a best result of fifth in the earlier contests before beating Luxembourg's Gil Linster by 2.9 seconds to win the finale of the EuroNASCAR 2 category.

Davidson drove for Marko Stipp Motorsport in 2023, winning the Rookie Trophy, but his maiden home event in the class was blighted by the incident at the first corner.

He returned to the championship this year with family-run Lux Motorsport - the first British team to enter the competition.

Running the same chrome pink livery he used in Mini Challenge, Davidson's progress in Sunday's Pro class race was hampered by contact with his 2017 Renault Clio Cup UK Junior rival Max Marzorati on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend.

But he was handed the lead in the EuroNASCAR 2 finale when Thomas Krasonis, Martin Doubek and Claudio Remigio Cappelli collided in two separate incidents at Druids on the second lap.

Davidson, from Stirling, was running in fourth when Doubek forced race leader Krasonis into a spin after attempting to pass on the inside.

Czech racer Doubek continued, but then was hit by Cappelli on the exit of the corner, sending both onto the grass and allowing Davidson into top spot.

The #21 driver survived two safety car restarts to take the win, which he celebrated in Victory Lane behind the Paddock Hill Bend grandstand.

"What a race - it was hard from start to finish," Davidson said.

"There was a bit of contact at the start which gifted me the lead but I had to hang on through the two safety cars.

"I am grateful the car is in one piece, and the fans have really made it this weekend."

Vittorio Ghirelli, Liam Hezemans and Doubek won the meeting’s other EuroNASCAR races.

Brands Hatch will host Super Touring Power 2 on June 29-30, with Platts Heath-based British Touring Championship star Jake Hill set to drive the same Nissan Primera he took to four victories at the event last year.
