Deren Ibrahim has spoken of his devastation at having his season cut short by injury.
The goalkeeper was in tears on Saturday night after dislocating his shoulder towards the end of Dartford’s 2-1 win at Maidstone.
Ibrahim is likely to miss the National League South play-offs if Dartford get there but he’s backed them to succeed in his absence.
The 25-year-old admitted: "My season’s over. I can’t see myself playing again.
"It’s devastating. I got home and cried. To think I’ve played in all these games this year and suddenly, 30 seconds of madness and your season’s over.
"I’ve looked at the video and wish I could tell you what happened. The ball was there to be got but I felt something go in my shoulder. I managed to grab the ball but my shoulder popped out. It was painful for a split-second but both physios were on and within 45 seconds it was back in place.
"I had an X-ray on Sunday and went to the fracture clinic on Monday. The shoulder specialist has to determine how much damage I’ve done to the ligaments.
"They’re saying it’s a sublux dislocation, not a full dislocation, so they’ve got to determine why and how it’s come out and the next step – whether or not I need an operation."
Ibrahim’s injury pain at the end of a memorable derby win epitomised the highs and lows of life in football.
But the keeper said: "There was no low on Saturday, regardless of me getting injured.
"For Dartford to come off with a win against Maidstone, that is the high. Yes, I’ve got injured but I would take getting injured and getting three points all day long.
"We know we’re capable and I’m sure we’ll finish it off. If I can get back for the play-offs and perform, I’ll try 100%.
"Whoever comes in, with the back-four they’ve got in front of them, it’ll be fine.
"I’ll be with the fans, getting the songs going and rallying the boys as much as I can. It’s part and parcel of football.
"Don’t get me wrong, I’m devastated but the club comes first."
