Welling manager Loui Fazakerley was singing the praises of Ricky Wellard after the win over Chester.

Wellard got his first goal in a Welling shirt as the Wings moved up to 18th in National League with a 2-1 win on Tuesday night.

Boss Fazakerley said: "I singled out Ricky Wellard (after the win) at Gateshead and I'll do it again.

"He was excellent, he has got his confidence back and is a lot more comfortable in that central position."

Fazakerley was equally delighted that Welling build on the 2-1 win at Gateshead last Saturday with three points - only their second home win of the campaign.

"That was the most important thing - to get back to back wins," he stated.

"The worry after such a good win against Gateshead was that the lads might get complacent. We warned them before the game for that not to happen.

"They responded with another battling performance and we're happy with that.

"The work-rate, togetherness and team spirit has got to be there. They have to match, if not outwork, the opposition."

Welling took the lead through Reece Harris' stunning 43rd-minute chip - only his second goal in a Wings shirt.

"Reece took his goal ever so well," added Fazakerley. "It was a great finish after a terrible touch.

"His first touch took him away from goal but what came after that was a touch of class."
