Welling boss Loui Fazakerley was proud of his players despite their 5-0 FA Cup thrashing by Carlisle on Sunday.
The Wings were outclassed by the clinical Carlisle who demonstrated just why they are the top scorers in League 2.
"I'm more disappointed with the scoreline than the performance," said Fazakerley, who was left frustrated that two penalty appeals were turned down by referee Simon Hooper.
"It's frustarting as it sounds like we are making excuses but we didn't get decisions in one box and then they were given against us.
"Obviously that affected the scoreline and once we went 3-0 down and had 10 men it was going to be difficult.
"Those decisions change the game and unfortunately they didn't go our way."
Fazakerley was still pleased with how his team performed, however, and has no fears over staying up in the Vanarama National League.
"We wanted to give it everything we had and if we take that attitude into the league then we'll win more games," said Fazakerley.
"We've got confidence we can pick up points, we're not too worried about looking down - we want to be looking up.
"They are the top scorers in League 2 and it was always going to be tough. It was a good turnout crowd wise and it was a good day apart from the scoreline!"
