Loui Fazakerley has been sacked as Welling United manager after just 10 months in the job.

Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Barrow was their sixth defeat in seven league games for Fazakerley's men.

Fazakerley said: "It's tough news for me to accept. I'd like to thank both Barry, Barrie and the board for their continued support and for giving us the opportunity to kickstart our careers in football management.

"I'd also like to thank the group of loyal Welling supporters who appreciated the hard work we put into the club and always kept up their support even through the tough times. You guys know who you are.

"Lastly, I want to thank all of the players at the club for their efforts and wish them all the best for the rest of the season. Even though results didn't go well towards the end, one thing is for sure, they always gave us their all!

"My outstanding memories with the club will always be winning the Conference South championship in 2012/13 and also, equally as satisfying, helping to keep the club up in the National League on the last day of last season."

Welling's last league win came on October 13 against Lincoln, while their last point came against the same opponents on November 28 as their poor run has seen them score just five goals in nine league games.

Welling operations manager Barry Hobbins said: "We're disappointed that we've had to make a change but we felt we had to give ourselves the best chance possible of staying up.

"We enjoyed a good run in the FA Cup this season but the league is our priority and we need to get back to winning ways very quickly.

"Loui has been a fantastic servant to the club, both as a player over a number of seasons and as a manager in the past year or so. We wish him all the best in the future."

Fazakerley leaves with Welling sat third-bottom, effectively five points from safety, but with a trip to FC Halifax, sat three places above them, this Saturday, and the visit of fourth-bottom Altrincham to follow a week later.

The Wings defender - who suffered a serious achilles injury on the opening day of the season against Guiseley - was appointed in a caretaker capacity after the departure of Jody Brown in March 2015 before being installed as permanent boss on April 22, steering the Park View Road side to safety on goal difference on the final day of the Vanarama National League season.

Fazakerley has made 219 appearances for Welling.
