A comment referring to "foreigners feigning injury" has led to a six-game ban for a football coach.

VCD Athletic coach Daniel Harris accepted a charge of improper conduct, including foul and abusive language, after an incident in an Isthmian League Development League fixture.

The match between Carshalton Athletic under-21s and VCD Athletic took place on October 9. The report from the FA's disciplinary panel says that Mr Harris admitted the charge later that month.

For the issue of liability, the standard of proof is the balance of probability. Evidence came from a match official, the manager of Carshalton and the club secretary of VCD Athletic.

Match official Mehmet Hussein stated that Mr Harris said to the opposition "you're playing like a bunch of foreigners." The words at the time were reported by the assistant referee but the report says it's unclear the referee heard the comments directly himself.

The opposition manager had a slightly different opinion of what was said, reporting that Mr Harris said: "all ******* foreigners are the same."

Mr Harris states that he mentioned that "foreigners feign injury" and that the context was a discussion over the impact of overseas players on the style of football.

The charges were admitted and Mr Harris' position as a coach along with the comment which included racial connotations were aggravating factors but the FA also took into consideration a number of other issues.

Mr Harris accepted his wrongdoing immediately and apologised at the time, he admitted the charges promptly, there was genuine remorse, there was no history of misconduct and the club say they are satisfied the coach has learned from the incident.

A minimum sanction was imposed by the FA, with Mr Harris suspended from all football activity for six matches, warned of his future conduct and told he must complete an online education course before he can return. The decision can be appealed.
