Steve King praised his Dartford side’s “outstanding” performance in defeating Slough at Princes Park.

The Darts were in control from first kick to last, and would have scored many more had it not been for an excellent display from visiting goalkeeper Jonathan North.

“I thought the boys were outstanding, we limited them to very little,” beamed King.

“Jonathan North has kept the scoreline down with the three saves he made, especially the starfish one.

“It’s going through the thirds, the midfield and wingers. How many could we have scored? I thought we were that good.

“The keeper made three blinding saves and Jack Jebb hit the bar with a free-kick. It was outstanding.”

Two of Dartford’s three goals were the result of unselfish play from their forward players. Danny Leonard squared for Ade Azeez’s first-half opener and Dan Roberts declined the chance of a goal against his former clubs to do the same for substitute George Porter late on.

With Roberts grabbing a brace last week, Azeez netting again and Porter now off the mark, Darts’ strikers are already finding the net more regularly than last season.

“We’ve been working on that in training,” revealed King. “That square pass there are goals on all the time. There was one in the first half when Danny Leonard could have squared it and Dan Roberts was there for a tap-in but he decided to shoot himself.

“The forwards are scoring already. Porter scored, Azeez, last week it was Dan and Azeez.

“Last year we were relying on our defence to keep firm and we got to the top of the league with the defence holding strong for us and goals were coming from all over the pitch. Now the defence is firm and the forwards are scoring.

“It’s only two wins. I’m level headed enough to know it can all fall apart. If we lose the next two it’s not so clever. You look at the bench, we can rotate and it wouldn’t affect the team.

“We’ve got pace and athleticism in the right areas and the whole team is comfortable on the ball which is important.”
