Dartford boss Alan Dowson hopes his team get the chance to gain revenge against Chelmsford in the play-offs.

The Darts lost to a stoppage-time winner at Princes Park in National League South on Saturday as the Essex side completed a league double over Dowson’s men, having won the reverse fixture with an 89th-minute in December.

But their excessive post-match celebrations lacked class and left Dowson bemused.

“They’ve got six points (off us) and are celebrating,” said Dowson. “I think they are plebs to be honest.

“They started singing songs and banging on doors, and you’re thinking is that what it’s about when beating Dartford so let’s hope we get them in the play-offs.

“The Worthing manager rang us and, apparently, they did the same last week. I think it’s disrespectful me personally, but if that’s what you do that’s what they’re doing.

“They’ve got some decent players but whacking the music up and singing songs? Get yourself a life man.

“Fair play to them and for winning in the last minute again, hopefully we get them and it becomes a little bit of a grudge (match) in the play-offs.”

Dowson felt his team did enough to win the game. Dartford striker Alex Wall missed two big chances when the game was goalless and the home side hit the woodwork once they were ahead.

But two goals in the last eight minutes saw them beaten at Princes Park for the fourth time this season.

“We had enough chances but again we’d have to score three to win the game,” reflected Dowson.

“I thought we deserved to win it to tell you the truth. The midfield five, the amount of times they gave the ball away. I thought Sam (Odaudu) was the best player on the pitch by a million miles.

“Our midfield lost a lot of second balls in there. Don’t get us wrong, we missed from a yard from a header. I’ve got my right-back putting it up 500ft in the air to the smallest player on the pitch. There’s a lot of things that didn’t go our way but it’s football, we’ll crack on.”

Dowson also laid down the law to his senior players, revealing there was a half-time disagreement in the home dressing room.

“It’s a big game and you’re going to get big games in the play-offs,” he added. “I’ve always felt I’m a bit too senior, we’ve got players who have been here and done good jobs but they think they know the game and they had a crack at half-time and we disagreed.

“I thought they got behind us twice and should have scored. These senior players who have been there, seen it and done nothing to be honest want to have their opinion and that’s where I feel we’ve been a little bit senior.

“You need senior players, I’ve got too many. I think the club has had too many for the last few years to be honest.

“We’re all here for a reason, when they talk and the way they think we have played and the way they try to run things.

“They try to run dressing rooms, senior players do, and I’ve just put a stop to that today. There’s a lot of senior players in that team who didn’t do very well for us today, didn’t make a tackle and didn’t pass the ball. That’s how it looked to me.”
