Welling head coach Damian Matthew has left the club after just 10 games of the season.

Speaking after the 3-1 home win over Eastbourne on Tuesday, Wings boss Mark Goldberg revealed that Matthew was relieved of his duties.

It follows a dreadful start to the season under Goldberg's revamped squad which saw them take just five points in 10 games.

Goldberg said: "Damian was coming in for a six-month period initially, to set up the academy.

"The six months are up, unfortunately the academy hasn't been able to materialise and it looks like it will take another year.

"We've agreed that Damian will look for other work elsewhere and it may be that he already has something else lined up."

Matthew originally joined the Wings in April when Goldberg took over the managerial hotseat from Dean Frost for the final two games of the campaign, with the club already relegated to National League South.

Goldberg took charge of Tuesday's victory against Eastbourne with assistant manager/coach Harry Wheeler. However, the Wings boss has also parted company with sports scientist Chris McConnell while goalkeeper coach Dom Coleman has decided to leave Park View Road.

Goldberg added: "I have decided to revamp the area of fitness although the goalkeeping coach has left on his own accord - I was quite happy with Dom.

"I'm looking to bring in other expertise around me and that will take place over the course of the next two weeks.

"It's very unlikely that anything will change between now and Saturday but next week I am hoping there will be two additions to my management team."
