Dartford youngster Cody McDonald has signed for Coca-Cola Championship side Norwich.

The 22-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a one-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Norwich boss Bryan Gunn watched McDonald in action against Maidstone on Saturday, and had talks with Darts officials after the game. The former Ipswich schoolboy had a two-day trial with the Canaries last month, and Gunn admits he is delighted to have got his man.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk Gunn said: "Cody's got an eye for goal and pace, which in modern football is crucial. Behind the scenes we can work on his fitness levels, as he'll be coming out of part-time football to train every day but we can work on that and he has the raw ingredients of a top striker."

McDonald has scored 19 goals in 20 appearances for the Darts this season and had also been linked with Charlton, Crystal Palace and Reading.

The striker explained: "I am glad that all the terms got sorted. It is the biggest achievement any young person can achieve. The chance to work with the likes of Bryan Gunn is brilliant and hopefully I can bring my goals to the team and do well for Norwich City."
