Dartford boss Steve King didn't regret bringing forward their home clash with Hungerford after failing to grab maximum points on Saturday.

The Darts are keen to get ahead of their schedule in National League South with delays possible if there are further Covid-19 cases in the camp.

It means no team in the division has played more than the 17 matches that Darts have completed, with some sides as many as six games behind.

King stood by his decision despite a crippling injury list as they picked up a point against Hungerford on the back of the midweek home win over Billericay.

"No, I don't regret it," said King. "It was the same team against Billericay more or less that did ever so well, four points from two games I'll take that.

"With so many players missing, a makeshift back four, a centre-half at left-back and then we lost Jordan Wynter so a central midfield player went right-back for the second half, (I'm happy). We were on the limit with the squad."

King felt his team deserved maximum points against Hungerford following a dominant second-half display.

But they came up against an inspired goalkeeping display from Luke Cairney for the visitors.

"It wasn't the greatest first half but the second half was much better and if it wasn't for their keeper then we win the game," said King.

"He pulled off an unbelievable save from the header that was going in the top corner, made another save in the 90th minute from Luke Allen and then saved the header from the corner - although everyone said it was over the line so maybe we didn't get the rub of the green there.

"He is a decent keeper, his distribution is good. He made two or three great saves. I don't think we could have done much more than we did in the second half to win the game against a team that is in the top five and having a great season.

"They are a hard-working side, they've got two forwards who can punish you, one of them is the second top scorer in the division. They are well set up and they give everything, they are prepared to fight and roll their sleeves up.

"I didn't like the first half performance if I'm honest. Second half I thought we were camped in their half, they hit us on the counter attack a couple of times and if the right ball had come in then we'd have been in trouble but I think that's because we threw bodies forward to try and win the game. For me we deserved to win the game.

"We got into great areas but it was our final ball. Nassim L'Ghoul was going past their defender for fun but the final cross didn't pick someone out, Femi Akinwande should have scored with a header and then Femi should have pulled a cross back to give Luke Allen a tap-in. We're making wrong decisions when we get in the final third."
