Dartford manager Ady Pennock insists he won’t be reading too much into an opening-day thrashing for their next opponents.

Pennock’s Darts play their first Isthmian Premier home match at Princes Park on Tuesday night against Potters Bar, who will be smarting from an 8-0 demolition at home to Dover last Saturday.

It was a blistering start by Dover and Potters Bar will be keen to make amends against Dartford, but Pennock won’t be fooled into thinking it’s an easy ride.

“It doesn’t have any impact on what happens in our game,” stated Pennock, whose side won 2-1 at Cray Valley on Saturday. “We’ll look at their video and the highlights and go from there.

“You know it’s going to be a boring nil-nil after all those goals! They played Dover who could be one of the favourites for the league, we don’t know yet as it’s very early at the start of the season.

“I want us to concentrate on our mistakes, especially in the second half on Saturday. We’re a team that’s still learning, we’re a work in progress.

“That step from the first game in pre-season to now, we’ve got better and better but I want us to be even better than we were against Cray now going forward.

“There were some good performances out there at the weekend but there’s a long way to go yet.”

Dartford will still be without striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong and midfielder Samir Carruthers, although the latter was out in the warm-up alongside his team-mates at the weekend.

Pennock confirmed that Ofori-Acheampong’s scan on his knee has provided more positive news than feared and he could return to action within a month.
