Kent Football United have received a cash grant to help their girls’ section flourish.
They have received a £250 award from UK Power Networks which will go towards new tracksuits.
Dan Johnson, a project supervisor at the company, nominated the semi-professional football club for his employer’s Team Sport Award out of admiration for the women’s game.
His daughter, Layla, who is 12, plays for the club.
The club are members of FA Women's National League, Southern Counties East, Kent Youth League, Selkent and Kent Girls League.
Mr Johnson said: “It was great to receive the support for the club.
“The chairman released a statement wishing all the girls well during Covid-19 and asked if anyone would sponsor the club.
“Times are hard for social clubs and UK Power Networks is good at supporting their employees with sport and fitness. It all happened really fast.
“The money will go towards the general running of the club and will make a big difference. It’s nice that companies, big and small, are coming forward to help with the development of girls’ football. For years it was a male-dominated sport.
“My daughter has fallen in love with football and it’s good there are clubs which are not just viewing it as a hobby and are training girls to pursue the sport, as players and coaches.”
The girls normally train at Glentworth Sports Club, in Dartford, on Wednesday nights and play competitively on Sundays.
The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. So far this year, more than 70 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff have benefited.
