Andy Pugh felt the fashion of Dartford’s win at Welling on Boxing Day was long overdue.

Pugh scored twice against his former club but it needed Alfie Pavey’s stoppage-time winner to claim the three points.

“We haven’t had a last-minute goal to win a game this season,” said Pugh. “It was a great way to win a derby. Alfie’s come up with a wonder finish to win it and there’s no better way.

“Of course, being 2-0 up it would have been nice to show some professionalism and close the game out but we let Welling get back into it.

“I think the celebration was him letting off a bit of stress. He’s a young lad and that’s the best way to answer your critics.”

Pugh’s goals were his first against Welling since leaving Wings to join Cambridge United five years ago.

“My first game back at Welling I was on loan at Dartford and that night it did feel a bit strange,” he admitted.

“But since then I’ve been a Dartford player permanently and I’ve got to come and do a job.

“As we were going out Tom Murphy asked if I’d scored here since I left. I was happy to get the two goals. I feel I should have had a third as well as I’m better than the finish I put wide.”
