Welling boss Jamie Coyle on the 4-1 defeat to Dartford

Welling boss Jamie Coyle has warned his squad that he has run out of patience.

Coyle felt two players let him down during the 4-1 defeat at Dartford on New Year’s Day – and he told them so afterwards.

“They know who they are and we can’t tolerate that,” said Coyle. “It’s irrelevant what position you play, you’ve got to work hard in our team and that’s the minimum requirement.

“You look at their wingers, not only were they good going forward they defended really well going back and doubling up on our wingers. It’s always tough to break that down and I don’t think we did that.

“You can’t carry anyone at this level. You have to have 11 players who are really on their game.

“I’m getting a bit bored of the ifs and buts, we have to have players who are going to work hard and this time of year you need characters.”

Coyle pointed to the example of on-loan striker Elliot Romain’s industry and is ready to shuffle his pack to get what he wants.

“I’ve been in these positions before as assistant manager or coach and we’ve got enough characters and quality to turn it around,” he added. “We just need one or two additions that are going to roll their sleeves up.

“I think there were two players that didn’t do that for us and we won’t tolerate it. We’ll make sure there’s 11 players out there who are going to work hard every week.

“If we do that, we’ve got enough quality to win games and get on a run.

“Elliot Romain ran back 40 or 50 yards and made a tackle in the corner when we were 4-1 down. One or two of our players can take a leaf out of his book and look at his desire and work rate, and how much he wants to win.

“We have to bounce back, it’s as simple as that. I’m fed up of being the nearly men, sooner or later it has to happen. We need to put our chances away and defend better in our box.”
