Dartford may have won on Saturday but joint-manager Adam Flanagan was left wanting more.

He admitted their performance was hit-and-miss in the 2-1 victory over a Hungerford side rooted in the National League South drop zone.

Darts did just enough to get the points but there was little for the home faithful to get excited about.

Flanagan admitted: "It was another bitty performance at home.

"We’ve been working on a few set-pieces, we brought them into the play today and they worked really well.

"One set Jamie (Philpot) up for his goal (in the 10th minute), which was a great header. I thought then we would kick on but we didn’t.

"It was another first half of football where we were quite sloppy in possession and a little bit panicky when we were defending deep, with our clearances being rushed and not into good areas. We weren’t able to build our play at all.

"We put 16 crosses into the box, which is by far the most we’ve had in recent games, all into good areas, but we need more desire to get in front of people in the opposition’s 18-yard box.

"If we can, we’ll turn those set pieces into goals because they are in really good areas.

"We should be scoring a lot more from dead balls with the level of quality we’re putting into the box at the moment."

Dartford looked comfortable at 1-0 but didn't go for the jugular and Hungerford were always in the game.

Flanagan said: "Even at 2-0, 10 minutes before they scored, they put a cross in and Bailey (Vose) had to make a tremendous save with lots of bodies around him.

"We haven’t got that ruthlessness to see games through, whether that be to go on and win 3-0 or 4-0 or just to win 2-0.

"We’ve got a soft underbelly and we let in far too many goals from deliveries into the box, which is frustrating and it’s something we need to address."

Dartford were set to record their first clean sheet at Princes Park since August until Hungerford pulled a goal back in stoppage-time at the end of the game.

Flanagan said: "It annoys us because you give individual players jobs to do and for 92 minutes those players have done that job.

"For the player to switch off who was marking their player is disappointing because we want clean sheets as a club, Bailey wants clean sheets as a keeper and the back four, that’s what their role in the team is and we’re not getting them.

"We need those because if we can be more ruthless at that end and improve in the other area, hopefully the second half of the season will be more prosperous."
