Scores of spectators returned to Brands Hatch for the first time in seven months as the easing of lockdown continued.

Up to 4,000 fans were allowed to attend the opening round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship on Saturday and Sunday.

The event attracted a sell-out crowd on the second day but featured a closed paddock as Covid restrictions remained in place.

On track, Phil Keen and Michael Igoe stormed to victory in Sunday's two-hour race aboard their Lamborghini Huracan.

They had qualified second behind the pole-sitting Aston Martin of Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam on Saturday, but Igoe snatched the lead at Druids in the early stages of the race and the WPI Motorsport-run pair never looked back.

Howard and Adam finished second – almost 10 seconds adrift – while 2010 Formula Ford Festival winner Dennis Lind produced a storming drive to take third place and secure the fastest lap.

Alongside former champion Leo Machitski in a Barwell Motorsport-run Lamborghini, Lind pulled a great move on Mercedes pilot Yelmer Buurman into Westfield to snatch the final podium spot 20 laps from the end.

The Dane then caught Adam in the closing stages, but was unable to wrestle second position away from the former British Touring Car Championship racer.

In the supporting categories, a 19-strong BRDC British Formula 3 Championship field started its season at the West Kingsdown circuit.

Ayrton Simmons, Zak O'Sullivan and Christian Mansell – no relation to 1992 Formula 1 world champion Nigel – shared the victories.

Meanwhile, Deal's Toby Trice enjoyed a brilliant weekend in the all-new Ginetta GT Academy series, taking a hat-trick of victories.
